Paper Pennies (WIP)

Pencil on Paper

Winter 2025 - March 2026

24” x 40”

Paper Pennies is made from folded paper that has been cut, individually folded, glued, and then drawn by hand with colored pencil. The piece shaped through repetition. During its making, pennies were used to hold each fold in place—a simple, practical act that became part of the work itself alongside a nod to the year the penny was discontinued. The title reflects these materials and methods: two humble elements working together.

The pale, muted blue is soft and subtle, accentuated by the light and shadow, subtly referencing the patina of an old penny. Repeated forms create a rhythmic field that reads as both system and ornament, sometimes evoking the familiar shape of fortune cookies.
Now that has a ring to it..."Paper, Pennies, and Fortune Cookies".

Power T

Inspired by colored pencil hyper-realist artist CJ Hendry, Caite wanted to add a unique spin to the University of Tennessee’s ‘Power T’ logo. Caite first experimented with paint and smaller versions of the ‘T’ where she applied oil paint with a palette knife to achieve a wet, dripping design. This 4” by 4” painted ‘T’ was then photographed under different light sources until the perfect shot came to be. Caite then spent 90+ hours drawing the photograph and used 45 different colors and shades of pencils. The final piece was then framed with a black mat and black frame.

AR15-557 “Bloom”

On a weekend trip away to a friend's house in the country, and after a long day at the range and shooting a steel plate with AR15 557 rounds, Caite discovered the jackets on the bullets nearby the target had "bloomed" into beautiful forms from the impact on the steel plate. This colored pencil drawing was entered into the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA) Pin-up show and sale along with other Georgia artists. This is the first drawing in the series. Possibly more to come!
